Yeaman began his professional life as an Explorer. His Stanford academics focused on geoscience leading to Bachelor and Master degrees in General Geophysics and Exploration Geophysics.   He then spent the next 10 years developing energy prospects around the world; from the Wyoming Overthrust Belt to the offshore Congo subsalt.  He traveled throughout the globe collecting and analyzing data to determine where oil and gas might be found; living briefly in Egypt and Malta (where he worked for the UN and government of Malta), before moving to London in the early 90s. He was a pioneer in New Ventures when the Cold War ended, searching the former eastern bloc from Poland to Romania to the former communist state of Mozambique. Along the way he found that his interest in exploring the history and culture of the places he was visiting was as strong as his interest in their geology. Recognizing the need for a broader economic understanding of the Energy business, he returned to school and received his MBA from RICE University summa cum laude in 1994. He then joined management consultant Accenture, where he continued his exploration of problems and solutions around the Energy world from Indonesia to Kuwait as an Energy Strategy partner.
